Metal Man Tools offers an Australian-made Lead Wiping kit for those who prefer the traditional approach.
The kit includes 4 30/70 body solder lead sticks, weighing approximately 2kg in total, used by top metal craftsmen in Australia. It also contains half a kilo of high-quality tinning paste, 2 Australian hardwood lead paddles (one flat and one rounded), and a tub of specially formulated paddle wax to prevent the lead from sticking to the smoothing paddles.
Each kit component is available separately. Additionally, the kit includes instructions for lead filling a panel.
Lead filling is a traditional and rewarding method, offering a unique skill in a time dominated by “bog” finishing. You might find it easier than you think.
